The Russian church was built on the initiative of the Russian community by the Italian architect P. Agosti according to the project of A. Schusev in 1913 in the style of Moscow churches of the 17th century (Schusev designed and created the Lenin mausoleum in Moscow). Officially, she bears the name of Christ the Savior (Chiesa di Cristo Salvatore). The temple is active, but it does not have its own priest, therefore services are conducted irregularly. Inside there is an exhibition of Orthodox icons.

There was a time when local residents were forbidden to play in the casino. Today the ban is lifted, but they still do not seek to go there. The main visitors are tourists. In addition to gaming areas, cinemas and a theater are open here. The casino hosts concerts, exhibitions, theater performances, literary meetings, poker championships. From 1951 to 1977, a song festival was held in the building.

The “ancestor” of San Remo was the ancient settlement of Matutia, founded by commander Guy Matucius in the 1st century BC. In the 7th century, Matucius preached Christianity and helped people, the Bishop of Genoa, Romulus. During his lifetime, he was counted among the saints. Saint Romulus became the patron saint of the city, which was renamed in his honor - San Romolo, over time the name was transformed into San Remo. Since 1297, San Remo belonged to the influential Genoese family of Doria; it became a free city from the middle of the 15th century. Since the end of the 18th century, it gained fame as a seaside resort popular with Russian nobility. In 1864, Empress Maria Alexandrovna (wife of Alexander II) chose San Remo for the "wintering". The Austrian Empress Sissi, traveling around Europe, visited San Remo several times. She was attracted by the mild climate and beautiful landscapes of these places.
