Roman synagogue received a severed pork head

One of the Roman synagogues received an extremely unpleasant “gift” on the eve of Holocaust remembrance day. According to Italian media, a suspicious bag was delivered to the synagogue in the afternoon. He immediately aroused some concerns among the clergymen: they were confused by the strange form of the parcel and some even offered to call a special detachment of sappers in order to open it. Moreover, the sender’s address and name were not indicated on the received “message”.

When the bag was nevertheless opened, its contents simply plunged the ministers of the capital's Jewish temple into shock: there was a severed pork head.

Despite the fact that the sender’s name was never established, no one doubts that this was a kind of gesture designed to express blatant disrespect to the persecuted people. The Jewish community is doubly offended: after all, they received such an insult a few days before the commemoration of the victims of the Holocaust and just a few hours before the start of the solemn Sabbath services.

The Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reports that at the moment the Roman Carabinieri are investigating the matter, carefully collecting accessible information, and are also working with a company that became the intermediary in transmitting the terrifying message. The police hopes to establish the identity of the sender, who, as it turned out, acted with all caution, leaving the minimum number of evidence that would have led investigators to his trail.

The incident caused a storm of indignation at the mayor of the Italian capital, Ignazio Marino (Ignazio Marino). He stated that he strongly condemns such a low deed that offended not only the Jewish community, but the whole city. Marino also expressed his support for the Roman rabbi, Riccardo di Segni, as well as all members of the community and its president, Riccardo Paccifici.

In addition to the mayor, members of the National Partisan Association of Italy ((ANPI) Associazione Nazionale Partigiani Italiani) also expressed their contempt for the sender of the humiliating parcel: “What happened today in the Roman synagogue is a direct insult to the memory of Holocaust victims.

This act offended not only the Jewish community, which became a victim racist laws of 1938, and then was completely expelled, but also all residents of the city. It’s mean and low, especially because it happened on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day “

The association’s spokeswoman also added: “These days, ANPI and other organizations are actively involved in various events aimed at honoring the memory of the victims of the Holocaust, as well as all those political prisoners, opponents of Nazism, gays, people with disabilities and gypsies who suffered in those terrible times. . The National Association of Partisans of Italy expresses its support for the Jewish community and hopes that law enforcement agencies will be able to identify the offender and punish him accordingly. ”
