How to get to the island of Favignana

You can get to the island of Favignana by speed boat from Trapani quite simply. To do this, you need to arrive at the port and buy a ticket at the ticket office approximately 30-40 minutes before departure. In the high season of July-August, we recommend buying tickets in advance by arriving at the port or on the Internet on the carrier’s official website www.usticalines.it one day in advance. We also advise you to check the current schedule.

We went to the island of Favignana as part of our trip to the south of Italy in June 2014. On the advice of the Sicilian Mario, whose villa we regularly stay in Sicily, it was decided to spend one day there.

If you travel around Italy with your own or rented car and stop, according to our example, at Villa Mario and Antonella, it will be logical to park the car not in the port, but in the parking lot near Mario's house - from there he will take you to the port and meet you. An alternative is to leave the car in a paid parking lot at the port for 8 euros per day.

Why visit the island of Favignana?

  • Visit the Tuna Museum
  • Relax in one of the incredibly beautiful bays, one of which Cala Rosa is one of the 10 best beaches in Italy.
  • Spend part of your honeymoon in one of the luxury hotels with great views and at a very affordable price.
  • Cycling around the island, as we did in June 2014
  • Gather a collection of photographs and vintage cars, the concentration of which on the island rolls over.

Since the yard was the beginning of June and there weren’t so many tourists, we arrived at the port half an hour without any worries, drank a cup of espresso and bought tickets without queues at the box office 15 minutes before departure.

A ticket from Trapani to Favignana costs 8.8 euros (children under 4 years old are free, from 4 to 12 years old - 4.4 euros) + environmental fee for visiting the island is 1.5 euros. Total one way 10.3 euros. On the way back, the fee is not collected so the ticket comes out cheaper. In total, it turned out 19.1 euros round-trip per person.

The boat is big enough and can accommodate about a hundred people. Keep in mind that it feels pretty decent at the pitching speed, so there is a reason for people with a weak vestibular apparatus to stock up on tablets from motion sickness before swimming. Sailors say that pitching is felt the least in the middle of the ship. We, in order to feel the whole “depth of depths”, sat right in the nose.

Anyway, during a 40-minute voyage, you’ll be able to photograph something vryatli, but somehow you need to have fun.

So, having sailed from Trapani at 9.30, we successfully reached the island of Favignana, where we spent one of the most beautiful days in life.
